PROJECTS:

The Shaking Ray Levi Society (SRLS) is probably best known in Chattanooga for its ongoing series of live musical performances, film screenings, and Arts events. But throughout its twenty-year history, SRLS has focused equally upon providing support for a variety of community-based Arts initiatives, including support for the production of new work by both emerging and established artists, as well as educational programs in local schools and other public settings.

OUTREACH:

The Shaking Ray Levi Society (SRLS), as part of its mission to serve the Chattanooga, TN community by supporting, producing, and presenting diverse genres of music and cinema, is dedicated to bringing educational opportunities to underserved members of the community at large. For many years the SRLS has brought hands-on experience in the discipline, art, and practice of musical communication to area schools and educational venues of all varieties.

Dennis Palmer and Bob Stagner, two of the SRLS' founding members, have impacted the lives of countless children through their interactive methods of musical pedagogy.

Jarrod Whaley, a Chattanooga filmmaker and active SRLS member, has taught video production workshops for four years in numerous Chattanooga schools, for many Summer camp programs, and in many other public arenas.

FILM / VIDEO PRODUCTIONS:

Since the expansion of its Mission in 2004 to include a focus on supporting cinematic in addition to musical work (and the artists working in these disciplines), SRLS has co-produced a number of moving-image projects. The production of new cinematic work brings with it a particular set of financial demands. Many of the financial and fundraising difficulties arising in these situations can be somewhat mitigated with the help of an incorporated non-profit such as SRLS.

SRLS provides administrative (and sometimes financial) support for a number of film / video productions each year. The model that has been established is one of co-production, in which SRLS assists filmmakers on an administartive level (in something like the role of an executive producer).

Recent projects that SRLS has collaborated upon include:

INTERNSHIPS:

SRLS occasionally provides internship opportunities for Chattanooga students. Usually these internships occur in connection with the production of specific projects, and thus occur at irregular and somewhat unpredictable intervals. However, SRLS interns have occasionally served in conjuction with some of the more administrative functions of the Society.
